Ten Women, Ten Stories - M. Whitaker, J. Thurber, R. Dahl

Ten Women, Ten Stories. A task-based approach to analysis of short stories by Antonella Mignani n n Love's dilemma, loneliness, crime, happy memories, a mythical creature and an uneventful shopping trip to an ordinary supermarket are only some of the ingredients of the ten short stories collected in this anthology. But what makes each of them a good story? What features of the narrative text enhance the reader's involvement? How are the characters constructed and made credible? The tasks draw the learner's attention to these and other questions, so that reading literature becomes a process of interaction between the readers and the written text. n The activity-based approach helps the learner become aware of the issues involved in the analysis of short fiction and encourages personal response to the literary text. The selection of Ten Women Ten Stories includes a variety of modern writers from different English-speaking countries - England, Ireland, the USA and New Zealand. The texts are all unabridged to ensure close contact with original pieces of writing and to promote effective language improvement. n Colectiv de autori: Malachi Whitaker, James Thurber, Roald Dahl, Janet Frame, Edna O'Brien, Anne Cassidy, Katherine Mansfield, James Joyce.
